My Favorite Young Starlet: Hilary Duff

Of all the young Hollywood starlets out there right now, I would have to say that I am Hilary Duff fan. I used to like Lindsay Lohan, but every time I watch her in an interview, she just sounds so arrogant. Hilary, on the other hand, has grown up but still retains that respectful and dignified look about her. Her weight has stabilized since her skeletal days when some magazines were calling her fat. Keep it up, Hil. You look great!

Trend Alert: Mod Dresses, Sort Of

Mod dresses started making its comeback in the spring but will probably continue. I really like the mod look because it is loose and conservative. However, most of the mod dresses have been too short for my liking. The dress should hit above the knee but short enough to cover your behind when you bend over. Kristin Cavaliri (or however you spell her name) is sporting an updated version of the mod dress in a silk material. However, this is not a good look for her because it is a little wrinkled and she needed some kind of neckline. I would suggest either a v-line or boat scoop. That said, the dress is still kind of cute. By the way, has anyone noticed that she has also lost some weight?

Trend Alert: Long Summer Dresses

The trend is either very, very short or very, very long. Eva Mendes has on a long dress that looks like an extension of last summer's trend. I like the smocking look, but it was very in last summer. The dress is okay to me, but the length of it updates the dress for her.

Weight Loser: KFed's Ex: Shar Jackson

I know, I know. She's not really a celebrity. Well, actually she was on that TV show "Brandy." She is, of course known lately for her rumored pregnancy with Kevin Federline. According to this picture, I highly doubt that she is. She has lost some weight recently because of some rumored plastic surgery. She really doesn't count as a "weight loser," but she's keeping it off. My friends, that's the key. Losing weight isn't hard; it's keeping it off that counts.

Trend Alert Color: Royal Blue

This color has been in for awhile, but it has stuck around and will probably persist for the summer and through the fall. Royal blue is the color. Not turquoise. Not a shade of turquoise that is either darker or lighter but royal blue. Tallulah Willis (daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis) is wearing the color here in some movie premiere. I had a dress like hers in the 8th grade. Funny how fashion always comes in full circle.

The Asian Factor

Amerie Mi Marie Rogers (born January 12, 1980),[1] known professionally as Amerie, is an American R&B singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, and model. Rogers was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to an African father and a Korean mother. I only remember her as Katie Holmes roommate in the movie "First Daughter."

Kristin Laura Kreuk (born December 30, 1982 in Vancouver, BC) is a Canadian actress. She is known for her roles on the Canadian television series teen soap Edgemont and on the American television series Smallville in which she stars as Clark Kent's star-crossed love Lana Lang.[1] Kreuk (Dutch pronunciation: IPA: [k[r]øːk] {krooyk}, but more commonly pronounced "krook" to rhyme with the English, "spook"[2]) was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her father, Peter Kreuk, is of Dutch descent; her mother, Deanna Che, is Chinese descent, but born in Indonesia; her maternal grandmother is Chinese-Jamaican.[3]Both parents are landscape architects. Kristin has a sister who is about five years younger. Kristin trained in gymnastics at the national level until high school but quit in grade 11 due to scoliosis. She attended Eric Hamber Secondary School in Vancouver.

Margaret Denise Quigley (Chinese: 李美琪; Pinyin: Lǐ Měiqí, Vietnamese: Lý Mỹ Kỳ [1], born May 22, 1979), better known as Maggie Q, is an American actress and former fashion model. She initially gained fame in Hong Kong. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to an American father of Polish, Irish, and French descent and a Vietnamese mother.[2][3] Her parents met while her father was stationed in Vietnam. Maggie is the youngest of 5 children. She has two sisters and two half-siblings from her mother's previous marriage in Vietnam. After graduating from Mililani High School she travelled to Japan and Hong Kong to earn money as a fashion model. In 1998 she got her first role in a Chinese-language TV series, and she has been acting ever since. Her most famous role albeit very small was in "Missions Impossible III."

Okay, so here it is. I'm Chinese American so I am fascinated when Asian celebrities get some press coverage. However, I am frustrated at the lack of Asian Americans in Hollywood. If there are any Asians in Hollywood, the men play the karate guy or the villain and the female roles are usually prostitutes or karate kickin' women. I know there are many great actors out there that are Asians and do not fit into either of these categories. Even the Asian ones that do get some kind of press coverage are from overseas. I'm talking about Asian Americans. Full-blooded ones. Not half. Not one fourth. Not one eighth. Full-blooded Asian Americans that can act and can play any role. Come on Hollywood. Give them a chance. With all that said, here are some actresses that are mixed. I figure better some than none.

Trend Alert: Lantern Sleeve Dress

Here is Mandy Moore in the latest trendy dress - the lantern sleeve dress. I like the dress on her because it is a very forgiving dress. Katie Holmes wore one recently as well. I'm not crazy about the lantern sleeve because it just looks a little weird to me. But, hey it's the trend. She also seems to have lost some weight. What do you all think?

Weight Loser: Rihanna

Bikini season must be upon us because celebrities are losing weight left and right. Rihanna has lost a lot of weight recently. Last summer, I remember seeing a photo of her in a bikini and thinking "this girl's got some meat on her bones!" I guess she felt the same way and has since lost some weight and then some! She said in a recent interview that she tries to eat more healthily and that "carbs are the enemy." I don't know why celebrities claim that they just ate more healthily and then they magically lost the weight. Personally, I think that they cut back on their portions (extremely perhaps) and then work out a ton. It's not rocket science, friends. It's pure simple math: cut back on calories - burn more calories and bam! you lose weight!
